LANGUAGE CLASSES IN ENGLISH-POLISH KINDERGARTEN "OLIVER"

It is widely known that learning foreign languages should be started as early as possible, because only a child's mind has the largest absorptive abilities, and the speech organ is still very elastic and able to repeat sounds of learned foreign words in a perfect way. Learning takes place then very naturally and, as a result, there is a great chance that the child will become bilingual at a further stage of learning.

In our everyday work with children we use, among other things, programme schedule of publishing houses such as Oxford University Press, Longman, and elements of an English language teaching programme on the level of kindergarten and "0" grade, approved by the Ministry of National Education.

Learning English in our kindergarten takes the form of playing, which stimulates simple utterances and the activation of the child's simulation abilities, with the application of various means and props: theme boards, didactic games, games involving physical activity, picture dictionaries, audio and video means, as well as books by the above-mentioned publishers.

What is important at the early stage of teaching children is the application of exercises based on the method of "reacting with the whole body", rhythm and rhyme, as well as language games. For this reason our children learn songs, verses, riddles and rhythmical texts. It is also important that the children should learn the language using all senses, including touch, taste and smell.

Our English classes also include the communication and drama method, where we create situations imitating those from the real everyday life. Thanks to this children can use English in a natural way, treating it as a communication tool.
For this reason it is very important for our pupils to have everyday contact with people who are native speakers of English, as well as with their peers coming from bilingual families. Contact with such people creates the most natural and credible forms of communication, which makes our children aware of the existence of other cultures and, at the same time, enriches their general knowledge about the world.

THE "ENGLISH" GROUP
(i.e. a group with extended range of teaching English)

In our kindergarten children have the opportunity to learn English in a special "English" group. This is a bilingual group where the didactic and educational process is realised in 50% in the English language and in Polish, in the form of so-called theme blocks.
Therefore learning English in this group is realised both during the already-mentioned didactic activities and free games, as during everyday events such as having meals, playing in the garden or performing hygienic functions. In such situations children are provoked to use the already known words and expressions in a spontaneous way, at the same time being mobilised to learn new vocabulary.
